Аннотация:
Introduction. Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, speculation has been circulating on social media and other media about the benefits of alcohol in terms of preventing SARS-CoV-2 infection. These facts, as well as a number of other reasons associated with a sense of uncertainty, fear and anxiety, isolation from society, in a number of countries have led to an increase in alcohol consumption. Aim: statistical analysis of the relationship between the average annual alcohol consumption per capita and the morbidity/mortality of the population from SARS-CoV-2. Methods. The research methodology consisted in a correlation analysis between the average annual alcohol consumption per capita in European countries and in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation and morbidity/mortality in the territory of the research object in the period from April 1, 2020 to November 31, 2021. Results. Studies have shown that in Europe the increase in the level of alcohol consumption is accompanied by a directly proportional increase in the morbidity and mortality of the population from coronavirus, and the degree of relationship between the indicators is very statistically stable. On the territory of the Russian Federation (RF), the same trends were statistically revealed, but the degree of stability of the relationship between the level of alcohol consumption in the RF territory and the morbidity/mortality rate of the population is not so great. Discussion. The results of clinical studies, laboratory experiments and present study results show that alcohol intake leads to a deterioration in the general state of health and secondary immunosuppression. Conclusion. The intake of alcoholic beverages during the COVID-19 pandemic is accompanied by an increase in morbidity and mortality in Europe, in general, and in the Russian Federation, in particular. Information about the protective role of alcohol against infection with SARS-CoV-2 has no scientific basis.
