Modern school students, teenagers and alcohol (Overview of the monitoring data, 2010 – 2011)

This article presents the results of monitoring students in grades 9 – 11 alcohol consumption urban schools from various cities within the six federal districts: Central Federal District (Moscow region, Kaluga), Northwestern Federal District (Arkhangelsk, Kaliningrad, Murmansk, Novgorod), the Southern Federal District (Volgograd), Volga Federal District (Kazan, Izhevsk, Cheboksary), the Ural Federal District (Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District), Siberian Federal District (Krasnoyarsk). Comparison of the results obtained in 2011 with the results of a similar survey in 2000 showed a significant (p < 0,05) decrease in the prevalence of alcohol consumption among both boys and girls, a significant (p < 0,05) decrease in the number of at-risk boys and among girls. However, as in 2000 the prevalence of alcohol consumption among girls was significantly higher than that of boys (about 10% on average). By the number of at-risk girls caught up with boys. And the age-specific structure of initiation to alcohol is also virtually unchanged. Peak of initiation to alcohol, boys and girls between the ages of 13 – 14 years.
