Malignant Alcoholism: Forming Characteristics and Clinical Types

Formation of alcohol dependence before the age of 30 years is characterized by the rapid forming of the alcoholism main clinical symptoms and syndromes, as well as the early appearance and the growth of intellectual-mental decline, alcoholic personality changes and social maladjustment. We studied the clinical and psychological aspects of the malignant course of alcohol dependence on 88 patients with a diagnosis "alcohol dependence syndrome". Patients were divided into two groups: 48 patients with alcohol dependence, which were regarded as having a malignant course, 40 patients , alcohol dependence, which were regarded as having a moderately progressive course. Clinical analysis included a differentiated assessment of the course of alcohol dependence and exogenous factors of brain lesions, and Cattell personality test. two different clinical types of malignant alcoholism – explosive and asthenic, differing in the number of clinical characteristics, as well as the nature and time of occurrence of brain lesions have been highlighted. The described clinical characteristics of the two types of malignant alcoholism can serve as criteria for the differential diagnosis and different therapeutic strategies.
