Аннотация:
Alcohol abuse causes brain and peripheral nerves impairment. The basis of alcohol-induced neurological dysfunction includes thiamine and other vitamins deficiency, lack of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA), excitotoxicity of glutamate and other neurometabolic factors. Alcohol detoxification is primarily aimed at alcohol withdrawal alleviation and prevention or treatment of seizures and delirium tremens with benzodiazepines and other GABA agonists. An important component of the therapy are thiamine and other vitamins that prevents Wernicke’s encephalopathy and other types of alcoholic encephalopathy and promotes functional recovery of peripheral nerves. Of particular importance in the treatment of alcoholic nervous system is lipoic acid that has the ability, in according to recent research, to reduce alcohol consumption in experimental conditions. Alcoholism treatment programs also contain homeostasis correction, including rehydration, electrolytes injection and acidosis overcoming.
