Аннотация:
The article reviews the outcomes of the treatment of alcohol-dependent patients with alcoholic polyneuropathy who received pathogenic therapy using -lipoic (thioctic) acid (Berlithion). The use of -lipoic acid reduced symptoms of alcoholic polyneuropathy: pains, paresthesiae, cramps. Clinical neurological examination reveals improvement in impaired sensation, and increasing strength in the legs of the patients with a disordered motor function. It is useful to start treatment of alcoholic polyneuropathy with a two-week intravenous administration of -lipoic acid (600 mg o.d.) followed by oral administration in the same dose during 6 – 8 weeks. -Lipoic acid is well-tolerated by alcohol-dependent patients. No adverse side-effects have been reported.
