Аннотация:
The main target of the toxic effects of alcohol in the human body is the brain. Alcohol is a common cause of cognitive impairment. Modern research reflects a wide range of structural and functional disorders of the brain caused by the use of alcohol. Despite some discrepancies in the results, the scientific community generally agrees on the negative impact of alcohol abuse on cognitive abilities. Both when testing, and when using neuroimaging techniques, a dose-dependent effect of alcohol on the severity of violations is detected. Due to the toxic effects of alcohol on the hippocampus, neurogenesis is impaired and, as a result, the behavior associated with the functioning of the hippocampus retains a cognitive imbalance for a long time. When refusing alcohol, a significant improvement in cognitive functions and the state of brain structures often occurs. In the case of delayed delirium, cognitive impairment is more explicit and less reversible. Drinking alcohol substitutes aggravates cognitive impairment. Cognitive impairment affects the treatment of alcohol dependence. It is necessary to take into account and correct cognitive deficit in order to achieve an optimal result.
