Estimation of the prevalence of smoking, alcohol and drugs consumption among students in the cities of the Samara region in 2019

Aim: to study the prevalence of smoking, alcohol and drugs consumption among students in the Samara region. Methods. The sample was 1920 students of educational organizations of the cities of Samara, Novokuibyshevsk, Chapaevsk of the Samara region at the age of 14–17 years (1104 boys, 816 girls), who by means of imuno-chromatographic analysis in urine determined levels of cotinin, ethylglucuronide and drug substances (opiates, cannabis, amphetamines). The sample was drawn up on the basis of the results of socio-psychological testing of students of the 9–11-th grades of general education organizations and students of the 1st courses of educational organizations of secondary vocational education, carried out using the objective test of the settings "OTU: Drug" (Janshin,2016) [3]. Statistical processing of data was carried out by means of descriptor statistics, correlation analysis [1]. Results. The urine study determined the prevalence of smoking among students (24.6%; 95% confidence interval: 22.7–26.5%) as well as alcohol consumption for one to three days before the study (1.8%; 95% confidence interval: 1.2–2.4% ). Conclusion. Based on the results of the study, the prevalence of tobacco and alcohol consumption among students, taking into account their age, made it possible to adjust the organization of measures for primary and secondary prevention of psychoactive substance consumption.
