Аннотация:
Introduction. Despite the fact that the use of developing technologies facilitates our daily lives, people, especially children and young people, suffer from excessive use of technology, computers and the Internet. Since children and adolescents are still psychologically immature, they constitute a potential risk group for Internet addiction. Despite the relevance of technological addictions as a potential public health problem, there are conflicting conclusions about the role of personal characteristics in technological addictions.
Methods. The study involved 674 students of Russian universities aged 18 to 25 years. The Internet Addiction Test (IAT), the five-factor personality model (Big Five) and the DASS-21 test (Depression Anxiety Stress Scale-21) were used as psychometric tools for screening diagnostics of depression, anxiety and stress levels.
Results. According to the data obtained from the IAT questionnaire, 138 (21%) respondents had problems associated with excessive Internet addiction. It was found that students with excessive Internet use / Internet addiction have lower rates of extraversion, benevolence, consciousness and openness to experience, as well as higher rates of neuroticism compared to ordinary Internet users. In addition, people with excessive Internet use/Internet addiction have higher rates of depression, anxiety and stress according to the DASS-21 questionnaire. Based on the data obtained on the relationship of personal characteristics with the use of the Internet, a model for diagnosing the propensity for Internet-dependent behavior was obtained.
Conclusion. When developing programs and conducting interventional studies for the prevention and treatment of Internet addiction, it is necessary to take into account the personal characteristics of young people.
