Аннотация:
Introduction. Currently, there are about 400 million unemployed people and more than 1.3 billion smokers in the world. Both unemployment and smoking are global problems, which determines the relevance of our research, the purpose of which is to statistically analyze the internal relationships between unemployment, population smoking, morbidity and mortality in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic based on a large amount of initial data. The research methodology consists in a correlation analysis of the relationship between the share of smoking men and women in each country, the unemployment rate, GDP per capita, morbidity and mortality in this country in 2021 from COVID-19, in various combinations. The results of statistical studies allow to establish that unemployment is inversely related to the value of gross domestic product per capita. In general, in European countries, the growth of unemployment is accompanied by an increase in morbidity and mortality, and the influence of unemployment on morbidity and mortality is completely identical. A general trend of a statistically significant increase in the share of the smoking population with an increase in the unemployment rate in the European territory has been established. The increase in the proportion of the smoking population in Europe is accompanied by an increase in morbidity and mortality from COVID-19, and smoking in the population has a particularly strong impact on the mortality rate of the population. Discussion. The hypothesis of the «smoker’s paradox», which is popular in foreign scientific circles, as nicotine protection against infection with SARS-CoV-2, has no serious scientific justification and does not correspond to our statistical results.
