Global Drug Abuse Assessment Program. Targeted studies for evaluation: A qualitative approach to data collection. Part 3

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime

Аннотация:
The toolkit was prepared with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime under the Global Drug Abuse Assessment (GAP). Focused assessment research is based on a thematic approach and multiple methods of data collection, carried out mainly through quality assessment research methodologies. These techniques are used to study a particular problematic behavior or group of behaviors in a target population (for example, street children, drug dealers, or an ethnic minority). The purpose of the study is to study the social consequences and social context of such behavior from the point of view of the target population and those populations that come into contact with it. The results of the study are used to define, plan and improve countermeasure programs and further research. The lead time for such a focus assessment study is three to four months. The material presented is intended to serve as a practical guide for conducting targeted assessment research and is intended for those who may not have sufficient experience in conducting such studies, especially using qualitative methods. As a practical guide, this module focuses on the issues that are essential for the successful implementation of a study and is illustrated by examples and case studies. The module does not discuss the complex theoretical and procedural aspects of conducting research, although links to other sources are provided for those who wish to explore these issues in more detail.
