Аннотация:
Background. Smoking, subsequently leading to addiction, is one of the most important health hazards in the world. Every year, diseases associated with smoking cause eight million deaths, but at the same time this cause of disease and death is largely preventable. Both active and passive smoking has a particularly devastating effect on children and adolescents, and therefore constant monitoring of the factors leading to tobacco use in this population is an important public health task.
Results. The article presents the results of a study of attitudes toward smoking among high school students in Moscow in 2022. The prevalence of smoking and alternative methods of nicotine consumption among the respondents was assessed, the motives for using tobacco and tobacco products and for quitting them were revealed, and the level of awareness about the medical consequences of smoking was determined. According to the results of the study, the situation with the spread of smoking among a representative sample of high school students is alarming. At the same time, the level of awareness about the dangers of smoking among survey participants was quite satisfactory. The study also shows that popular opinion on the motives for smoking among adolescents is not entirely valid – the predominant motives for smoking are not social, connected to the crisis of adulthood and communication problems, but physiological and psychophysiological. The identified factors are proposed to be taken into account in the development of measures to reduce and prevent smoking both in a particular educational institution and in general.
