Introduction. This article presents data from a literature review that reveals the phenomenon of suicidal behavior in patients with synthetic cathinones abuse. Synthetic cathinones are one of the most common classes among new psychoactive substances.
Aim: fnalysis of the link between suicidal behavior and the use of synthetic cathinones by conducting a literature review.
Methods. An electronic search was performed, including all articles published from January 2012 to August 2022 using the following keywords «NPS» OR «new psychoactive substances» OR «synthetic cathinones» AND («suicide» OR «suicidality») NOT review NOT an animal in the PubMed and Web of Science online databases.
Results. Suicidal behavior is often linked with the use of synthetic cathinones. The increasing use of new psychoactive substances, in particular synthetic cathinones, is a growing public health problem in the world. Given the link between suicidal behavior and synthetic cathinone use, early interventions for suicide prevention should include the following: early identification, screening, management and follow-up of those with suicidal behaviors, and limiting the spread of of new psychoactive substances.
