Аннотация:
Introduction. Despite the popularity of gaming, only a few users suffer from internet gaming disorder. Millions of people play online games for a moderate amount of time and value games as a form of entertainment comparable to movies, TV or literature. Therefore, it is necessary to study both the features of the games themselves, as well as individual and social risk factors for the development of problematic use of online games.
Methods. Representative bases for searching scientific sources were used as the research material: E-library and Google Scholar. The following words and combinations were used as searching tools: risk factors for gaming disorder, predictors of gaming disorder, risk and protective factors for IGD, internet use problematic, pathological video-gaming.
Results. A review of the available scientific sources has been made, and information of risk factors for the development of problematic of online games use and online gaming disorder has been systematized and briefly presented.
Conclusion. Extreme spending time on play, especially during adolescence and young adulthood, has a detrimental effect on the achievement of maturity and autonomy. Therefore, early detection of the problem and prevention of risk factors for its development allows not to lose educational and social achievements, to form neoplasms of this age.
Online games addiction, like all addiction disorders, is multifactorial in itself and is caused by a combination of various risk factors. The study of risk factors shows that it is often more worthwhile to increase the resilience of individuals than to eliminate all potential environmental hazards. While some games or gaming features may carry an increased risk, individual risk factors contribute most to the development of Internet gaming disorder.
