Introduction. One of the severe and often fatal conditions in alcohol addiction is withdrawal syndrome (alcohol withdrawal syndrome). A serious complication is seizures in the structure of withdrawal syndrome, which are defined as acute seizures associated with alcohol withdrawal and alcohol intoxication, develop mainly with prolonged alcohol dependence and are usually bilateral tonic-clonic seizures that occur in 30% of patients. The study of clinical associations of convulsive seizures in the structure of alcohol withdrawal syndrome is an urgent task of modern science.
Methods. 399 patients with a diagnosis of 10.2 were examined, of which 83 (21%) women and 316 (79%) men, among whom 2 groups were identified: the main group (patients who suffered a convulsive attack in a hospital setting) – 108 patients, including 12 (11%) women, 96 (89%) men, and the comparison group -291 patients, 71 (25%) women, 220 (75%) men. Clinical and psychopathological, psychometric and statistical methods were used. The Hamilton anxiety Scale was used as a tool for determining the severity of anxiety manifestations.
Results. In patients with convulsive seizures in the postabstinent period, anxiety disorders were more pronounced, including: anxious mood; insomnia; cardiovascular symptoms; gastrointestinal symptoms; genitourinary symptoms; cognitive disorders; somatic complaints; vegetative symptoms; as well as the overall score on the Hamilton anxiety scale.
Discussion. The described patterns may be due to the participation of alcohol in the activity of the glutamate and gabaergic systems of the brain.
Conclusion. Thus, we found that the presence of seizures in the structure of alcohol withdrawal is associated with the severity of both physical and mental symptoms of anxiety in the post-withdrawal period.
