The presence of depressive and sleep symptoms in alcohol dependence is one of the factors of disease relapse. This review examines the effectiveness of different groups of antidepressants in the remission stabilization by reducing the severity of depressive symptoms in alcohol addiction. The use of modern antidepressants regulating sleep architecture can be effective in treatment of alcohol dependence with comorbid depressive symptoms and remission stabilization. This review shows that the SSRIs have better tolerance than tricyclic antidepressants. Also, it demonstrates that antidepressant use reduces the severity of comorbid depressive symptoms and reduces alcohol consumption in patients with alcohol dependence.
