Аннотация:
Introduction. The pandemic of D-avitaminosis that has engulfed the planet is a global problem for mankind, since most of the population suffers from vitamin D deficiency or insufficiency. Numerous results of foreign studies show that tobacco smoking leads to a decrease in the average level of vitamin D in the blood serum, an increase in its deficiency and insufficiency. Of particular note is the fact that adult smoking has a very significant impact on children’s vitamin D levels and overall children’s health.
Purpose of the work: to study the relationship between the prevalence of smoking among the population, the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency and life expectancy of the population on the example of European countries (including the Russian Federation), the USA and Canada.
The research methodology consists in a correlation analysis of the dependencies between the proportion of the population of a particular country suffering from vitamin D deficiency, the prevalence of smoking among men and women, and the estimated life expectancy of the population of this country (separately men and women), on the other hand.
Results. The results of statistical studies show that the prevalence of smoking in Europe, the USA and Canada is accompanied by a directly proportional increase in the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency. In turn, the prevalence of vitamin D deficiency leads to a reduction in the average population is significantly higher than that of women.
Discussion. Along with the generally recognized effect on the human musculoskeletal system, vitamin D deficiency, exacerbated by tobacco smoking, weakens the immune system, which is accompanied by a proportional increase in the incidence of various kinds and a decrease in life expectancy of the population.
Conclusion. It is necessary to organize a large-scale information campaign about the dangers of smoking and the need to maintain the required level of vitamin D in the media, conduct explanatory work by district therapists, attending physicians and other medical workers, as well as officials of institutions responsible for the health care system at the federal, regional and municipal levels, which will help improve the health and increase the life expectancy of our fellow citizens.
