Introduction. Social changes in recent decades have led to an aggravation of the problem of female alcoholism. In this regard, additional research is needed on the problem of alcoholism in women.
The aim of the study is to identify the features of quantitative EEG in women with alcohol dependence, as well as to establish links with the individual level of aggression.
Methods. 30 women with alcohol use disorders aged 45 [40; 55] years were examined. As a control group, 30 mentally and somatically healthy women of comparable age were examined. The EEG was recorded and analyzed in a state of calm wakefulness with the calculation of the values of absolute spectral power and coherence of theta, alpha and beta rhythms. The Bass-Darkey questionnaire was used to assess the level.
Results. The absolute spectral beta power was statistically significantly higher (p<0.05) in women with alcohol use disorders compared to the control in the frontal (Fp1, Fp2, F3, F4, F7, F8) and central (C3, C4) leads. The results of the analysis showed that there are statistically significant differences (p<0.05) between the pairs of electrodes in all three frequency ranges under consideration. In the beta range, 2 pairs (F7-F8; C3-C4), 8 pairs (Fp1-Fp2; F3-F4; F7-F8; C3-C3; P3-P4; O1-O2; T3-T4; T5-T6) in the alpha range and 6 were statistically significant pairs (Fp1-Fp2; F3-F4; C3-C3; P3-P4; O1-O2; T5-T6) in the theta range. In general, coherence values were higher in the control group than in the group of women with alcoholism. Statistically significant direct correlations were found between the values of absolute spectral beta power and the level of indirect aggression in frontal leads (Fp1 (R=0.591; p=0.021), Fp2 (R=0.667; p=0.002), F7 (R=0.711; p=0.009)). Additionally, statistically significant inverse correlations were found between the values of alpha-range coherence in frontal leads and the level of indirect aggression (F3-F4 (R=-0.538; p=0.038)), the level of irritability (Fp1-Fp2 (R=-0.602; p=0.017), F3-F4 (R=-0.531; p=0.041)), as well as between the values of the coherence of the theta range in frontal leads and the level of irritability (F3-F4 (R=-0.561; p=0.029)).
