Аннотация:
Most illicit drug activity has returned to pre-pandemic levels, resulting in even greater availability of illicit drugs and further declines in prices. At the same time, there is an increase in the pharmacological activity of illicit drugs. The increasingly complex pattern of drug use, the aging of the population, and increased economic difficulties and mental stress require closer monitoring and more targeted drug treatment and preventive care, especially for vulnerable groups. The Committee is concerned about the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine and calls for unhindered access to medicines, including those containing substances subject to international control.
Increasing drug use, particularly methamphetamine, and the activity of organized crime groups as a result of increased trafficking of cocaine and methamphetamine through the Pacific Island States are challenging many communities in the Pacific region. There is still a lack of information on the extent of drug use and treatment-seeking rates in Pacific island countries. Governments in the region, with the support of bilateral partners and regional and international organizations, are strongly encouraged to prioritize the collection of such information and the provision of evidence-based treatment services.
