The problem of alcohol consumption by teenagers in Russia from a historical perspective

Introduction. In connection with the alleged increase in the incidence of alcohol dependence as a consequence of mental non-psychotic disorders of adolescents, it is important to study the problem in a historical aspect. Aim: to analyze historical facts about the prevalence of alcohol consumption by adolescents from the second half of the 19th century to the present in Russia. Methods. Review of Russian-language scientific and medical literature using the Ciberleninka, Dissercat databases. The following search terms were used: adolescent alcohol use, Russian Empire, USSR, Russian Federation. Results. The most widespread alcohol consumption by teenagers In Russia was noted before the outbreak of the First World War in 1910–1914 and in the 90s of the 20th century. During the Soviet period, the detection of alcohol consumption occurred in the case of illegal actions committed by teenagers. Alcoholism formed before the age of 18 in the 70s and 80s of the 20th century is a rare phenomenon that occurs mainly against the background of psychopathies or accentuations of the nature of epileptoid or unstable types. In the first quarter of the 21st century, there has been a positive trend in the decline in indicators characterizing alcohol consumption by adolescents. Discussion. Alcohol consumption by adolescents is a behavioral tracing paper of alcoholic behavior of adults, most of whom are parents, carriers of social and spiritual values. Conclusion. Despite the trend towards a decrease in the volume of alcohol consumed, the issues of reducing the age of initiation of consumption and a high percentage of adolescents and young people interested in alcohol consumption remain relevant.
