Аннотация:
A review of the literature on the use of ethyl glucuronide (EG) content in hair as a biochemical marker of chronic alcohol intoxication is presented. Accumulated evidence suggests that determining the concentration of EG in hair is a fairly reliable way to diagnose chronic alcohol abuse and can serve as an objective alternative to psychometric tests. An urgent task for further research is to clarify the threshold concentrations of EG in hair for discrimination between different levels of alcohol consumption, as well as standardization and unification of the protocol for determining EG, which will expand the prospects for the use of this biochemical marker in expert and medical practice.
