Аннотация:
Addictive or dependent behavior is one of the most pressing problems of modern society. In addictionology, it is customary to distinguish the following types of addictions: chemical (alcoholism, drug addiction), intermediate (overeating, starvation) and behavioral addictions (workaholism, gambling, computer addiction, Internet addiction, sexual addiction, relationship addiction, oniomania). Shopaholism (oniomania), also called shopping mania in Russian-language literature, is considered as a psychopathology characterized by a powerful impulse to acquire things, even unnecessary ones. The concept of oniomania or «shopping mania» was introduced by the German psychiatrist E. Kraepelin at the beginning of the twentieth century, the author described people who can compulsively shop, thoughtlessly incur debts and constantly delay payments. Experts have long considered oniomania a serious mental disorder with dangerous consequences. In the 21st century this disorder is called the «new plague of the century.» Most often, women become shopaholics, but men are also found among patients. Experts have identified the symptoms of shopaholic addiction; its most characteristic manifestations are psychophysiological in nature and are expressed in increased sweating, rapid pulse, stomach cramps, nervous tremors throughout the body, and physiognomic changes.
